Houston Rockets defeat LA Lakers 100-92. Well that didn't go as planned did it? The Lakers were outplayed by the Rockets from tip off and never seemed to wake up. With Houston getting battered with Shane Battier getting stitches on his forehead thanks to Sasha Vujacic in the first quarter and Yao Ming going down after bumping knees with Kobe Bryant in the fourth, they kept with their game plan making the Lakers uncomfortable. The Lakers helped out taking awful shots going 2-for-18 from three-point land. Lamar Odom played pretty well but never seemed to have the ball scoring nine points with five rebounds. Kobe Bryant scored 32 points on 14-for-31 shooting. I wasn't counting on this one being the game the Lakers lost when I predicted the Lakers to win by five. Hopefully there will be no repeat of this game.

Embedded video from NBA VideoLA Dodgers defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2. The Dodgers have now won an NL-record 11 consecutive home games to start the season. Of course meeting a team that is last in baseball in batting average will help things a bit. Eric Stults pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Dodgers giving up only the two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four. Manny Ramirez and Andre Ethier hit back-to-back solo homers in the first inning to pounce on DBacks starter Doug Davis. In the second inning with Russell Martin on first base, Matt Kemp hit a grounder to shortstop Jack Wilson in what was sure to be a double-play ball. But Wilson dropped the ball and both Kemp and Martin were safe on first and second. E6. Then Casey Blake hit a scorching liner to Wilson to begin a 6-4-3 triple play, the first triple play against the Dodgers since 1991. Nonetheless the Dodgers continue to beat up on the NL West now with the best record in all of baseball. But I'm going to reserve judgment until later this month with a road trip to Philly and Florida.

LA Angels defeat Oakland A's 5-2. Joe Saunders pitched a strong 6 2/3 innings only giving two runs, one on a bases-loaded balk and a solo homer to Kurt Suzuki. Meanwhile DH Mike Napoli had a career day with four hits getting two RBI. Torii Hunter contributed with two singles and three RBI. The Angels bullpen which has been battered this season pitched 2 1/3 perfect innings getting four strikeouts between Jose Arredondo and Brian Fuentes.

Notable NotesEveryone's favorite NBA star LeBron James won the NBA regular season MVP award. His sixth year in the league he has dominated from the moment he stepped on the court as the Cleveland Cavalier's first round pick winning Rookie of the Year in 2003 and leading the Cavs to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history in 2007. The wunderkind averaged 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists this season which saw the Cavs clamp down on defense and the overall one-seed throughout the playoffs. Kobe Bryant came in a distant second with only two first-place votes and Dwyane Wade placed third. At 24 James is the youngest MVP winner since Moses Malone won it with the Houston Rockets in 1979.There was a lot of chatter Monday morning about Brett Favre un-retiring yet again and going to the Minnesota Vikings. If anyone remembers this time last year, I was already sick and tired of the Favre talk. I'll just let a coworker of mine speak for me. A Wisconsin native and die-hard Green Bay Packers fan, "He's such an asshole," she said of Favre. "I hope he gets into an ATV accident. That would be fitting for such white trash."
