Houston Rockets Roster Report 2008-09-22

Houston Rockets Roster Report 2008-09-22
DRAFT PICKS:

Donte Greene, F, 6-11, Syracuse -- Long, skilled small forward who will need time to develop. Drafted by Memphis, acquired by Rockets in trade and later traded to Sacramento in the Ron Artest deal.

Joey Dorsey, F, 6-7, Memphis -- Strong and physical interior defender more likely to play early, probably likely as a backup center. Drafted by Portland, acquired by Rockets in trade.

Maarty Leunen, F, 6-9, Oregon -- Range-shooting 4 the Rockets plan to keep overseas for at least a few seasons.

PLAYER NOTES:

--G Aaron Brooks suffered some damage to the roof and backyard of his home during Hurricane Ike yet was one of the Rockets who put others' needs first and generously gave time to the team's community-rebuilding effort. "This is just an opportunity to give back. It's been a time of devastation," he noted. "We want to just show (people) that everything is going to be all right in the future. It's just good to see a smile on their faces."

--F Mike Harris played a leading role in the Rockets' cooperative effort with "Feed the Children," explaining: "A lot of people are down. I have a couple friends who lived down in Galveston, and the way they're talking, everything is lost. Luckily, it's all materialistic stuff and they have their memories and their family, but I'm just trying to support them in any way I can."
