Houston Rockets Roster Report 2008-09-12

Houston Rockets Roster Report 2008-09-12
DRAFT PICKS:

Donte Greene, F, 6-11, Syracuse -- Long, skilled small forward who will need time to develop. Drafted by Memphis, acquired by Rockets in trade and later traded to Sacramento in the Ron Artest deal.

Joey Dorsey, F, 6-7, Memphis -- Strong and physical interior defender more likely to play early, probably likely as a backup center. Drafted by Portland, acquired by Rockets in trade.

Maarty Leunen, F, 6-9, Oregon -- Range-shooting 4 the Rockets plan to keep overseas for at least a few seasons.

PLAYER NOTES:

--C Dikembe Mutombo returned to Africa for the NBA's "Basketball Without Borders" program and was not scheduled to return until mid-September. There have been contract talks with Mutombo's agent, David Falk, but nothing is expected to be completed before Mutombo returns.

--F Tracy McGrady has been cleared to resume workouts, though there is some weight-room work he still must keep in check after offseason shoulder and knee injuries. He has played in some of the practice court pickup games at Toyota Center, a change from his usual offseason routine of working out with personal trainers.

--C Yao Ming came through his Olympic schedule with no difficulties in his first action since season-ending foot surgery. He was limping after one game but said that was only because of blisters. He said his conditioning is still not 100 percent.
