Houston Rockets Roster Report 2009-10-02

Houston Rockets Roster Report 2009-10-02PLAYER NEWS:

--F Tracy McGrady has spoken in increasingly optimistic terms about his ability to not only comeback from microfracture knee surgery, but to regain the athletic abilities he had several years ago. The Rockets have not said, however, when they expect him to be ready for preseason practices.

--G Will Conroy, who played well for the Rockets' summer league team, joined the voluntary Toyota Center workouts and is expected to sign in the days before training camp signs. He would have a non-guaranteed contract, but the Rockets have just two point guards signed, offering Conroy a chance to make the team.

--F Carl Landry spent a few days at the Rockets' Toyota Center workouts before returning to Purdue for his customary training heading into camp. He was not as fit as he had been when reporting the past two seasons, but he has been impressive in the past when returning from his September workouts.

MEDICAL WATCH:

--G Tracy McGrady has moved to five-on-five play in his rehab from microfracture knee surgery.

--C Yao Ming underwent extensive surgery to repair the hairline fracture in his left foot and to realign the foot to alleviate the stress on the bone by reducing the arch of his foot. He is expected to remain on crutches with the foot immobilized until late September.

DRAFT PICKS:

Jermaine Taylor, G, 6-4, Central Florida (second round) -- A prolific college scorer, the Rockets hope he can develop a more well-rounded game. He could offer depth, especially if Von Wafer leaves as a free agent.

Sergio Llull, G, 6-3, Real Madrid (second round) -- Signed for two more seasons in Europe, Llull could benefit from the time to develop.

Chase Budinger, F, 6-7, Arizona (second round) -- The Rockets love his athleticism and well-rounded offensive game. Though not a strong one-on-one player, his shooting touch and knack for playmaking could fit well playing with Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady.
