Houston Rockets Notes, Quotes 2008-11-30
--Shane Battier knew this was coming, but he still could not have been thrilled to be out again.

When he returned to play his first two games of the season after months of rehab on his left ankle and foot, he knew that he would not be able to play both ends of a back-to-back. Then he played 31 minutes in his first game and 19 strong minutes Saturday in his second game, making seven of 11 shots and scoring 15 points while helping to shut down Manu Ginobili.

After the game, however, he was told that the 31 minutes in the first game were entirely too many and that he not only could not play in Denver, he should not even get on the plane to risk the swelling that would come on the flight.

--For most of the season, Luther Head's role had been to sit and wait.

He had played in only five games, none since Nov. 15. Then Tracy McGrady and Brent Barry were ruled out, and Rockets coach Rick Adelman moved Head from the end of the bench to the starting lineup.

He was well rewarded for the gamble.

"All the time, you talk about guys who aren't playing and staying ready and preparing themselves," Adelman said. "With our injuries, Luther had a chance to start, and I just can't say enough about what he did. It just shows you how a guy has worked and continued to work when he stepped on the court and played 41 minutes when he hasn't been playing at all. The shape he is in and the way he played, you have to give him a tremendous amount of credit."

Head did not learn he was starting until about 30 minutes before the game, but he made seven of 11 shots, scoring two more points, 21, than he had all season.

"You have to sit down and think and keep yourself ready, keep yourself motivated," Head said. "It's tough, but if that's what I have to do, it's what I have to do."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "After the other night, the guys came out and really had energy. They did great. The first 18 minutes were about as good as you can get, and then they made their run. Then in the second half, I thought we were just solid all the way through. We played a great game." -- Coach Rick Adelman.
