Houston Rockets Notes, Quotes 2009-12-06

Houston Rockets Notes, Quotes 2009-12-06--Tracy McGrady was the center of controversy again, but this time, few noticed and it ended quickly.

A video he made and posted on the Skillzlab Web site had him saying there has been no communication between he and the Rockets and that he just wants to know his status, whatever it would be.

The video, he said, was old and no longer reflects how he feels. By now, he said he and coach Rick Adelman have spoken often and he knows exactly where he stands.

"We had a talk," McGrady said. "That (video) was at a time I didn't know what was going on. I didn't know what my status was. I talked to coach. I know what it is.

"I feel good about the talk we had and where we stand and what he's trying to do. He's looking out for me and my best interests as far as getting back on the basketball court. And because we have a young team, we just can't throw me out there like that. I'm looking forward to getting a few more practices in and seeing what happens."

There is no timetable for McGrady's return, with Adelman saying often that it will depend on when McGrady plays at a level in which he will fit well with the Rockets in general.

"We anticipate him playing," Adelman said. "It's our 20th game. It's not like we're 60 games into it and he hasn't played. This is the toughest, toughest part of our schedule. It's a ton of games, and a ton of games on the road. There's so many questions I want to be sure we have answers. Right now, medically, everything looks good. Now, it's how does he keep improving? How does he feel when he gets on the court?"

--Carl Landry does not fit the role of a go-to scorer. He has never started an NBA game. He said he hits the offensive boards so well because he has always been a role player that had to rebound to get touches. He was a second-round pick, with questions about his knees.

Increasingly, however, the Rockets have gone to him down the stretch of games, never so much as Saturday, when he scored 13 fourth-quarter points.

"The coaching staff and the front office put confidence in me, telling me to stay aggressive," Landry said. "I'm not necessarily looking to score every time, but just having the offense run through me, this game if players have confidence, they feel they can do anything. My confidence is at a high right now. Hopefully, it can stay there through the rest of the season."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We couldn't get a stop there in the last two minutes. We had a great chance to win. When you're playing on the road, you give yourself a shot in the fourth quarter. That's what you want, and we had our shot to win." -- Coach Rick Adelman, after Saturday's loss at Portland.
