Houston Rockets Notes, Quotes 2009-11-03

Houston Rockets Notes, Quotes 2009-11-03--For more than a decade, the Rockets have struggled on the Jazz's home court more than any other road arena. They went into Monday's game 9-28 in EnergySolutions Arena, and the Jazz had won six of the last seven meetings, including both games last season.

Though they did not sweep their first-round meetings in 2006-07 and 2007-08, they won five of six, enough for the Rockets to consider it the scene of recurring nightmares.

"This place leaves a sour taste in your mouth if you're a Rocket," Chuck Hayes said. "The history, the rivalry that we've had, the playoff series, this place can get really, really hectic. The runs, the crowd, how much harder they play, they really do have a true home-court advantage when you come here.

"For me, it feels fresh because I was here for both series and they still have a lot of core players back from those series. For myself and Shane (Battier), we still have memories. It still lingers."

That made the Rockets' win in Salt Lake City on Monday that much more significant.

"Anytime you win in Utah, it's a special event," Battier said. "Not many teams do it. Kyle Lowry was saying it was his first win ever here. We had to tell the young guys and David Andersen, 'Savor this.' It doesn't happen very often that you can come in to (EnergySolutions Arena) and win."

--When the Rockets rallied on opening night from down 20 to within six, the comeback did not seem significant because the Trail Blazers hung on and won.

It turned out, however, to be the start of a pattern in the three wins since, with the bench rallying in every fourth quarter.

That was never clearer than when the Rockets outscored the Jazz 34-20 in the fourth quarter, with Chase Budinger scoring 10 of his 17 points in a four-minute fourth-quarter burst.

"It's huge. It's just huge," Rockets coach Rick Adelman said of the contributions off the bench. "We need everybody. It's not going to be one or two guys for us. Everybody who plays has got to contribute. Tonight was one of those games.

"We had that one surge there in the fourth quarter. The biggest difference was we didn't stop there. We maintained. We expanded the lead. That's the difference. They get going. It's a tough place to win. They come at you. They made their run and we responded, and it was a huge road win."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's huge, a huge win for us. They're probably top in the league every year as far as home-court advantage. To come in and get a win is huge, and probably how we played is more impressive than the win itself." -- Chuck Hayes.
