Houston Rockets Notes, Quotes 2009-10-08

Houston Rockets Notes, Quotes 2009-10-08--Tracy McGrady had made starting training camp on time a goal throughout the offseason and spoke of his rapid improvement after microfracture surgery, but was not close to practicing with the team. McGrady will continue his rehab on his own until Nov. 23, when he will undergo another MRI to determine whether he can begin practicing with the team.

"He wants to be 100 percent when he gets back," Morey said. "He wants to be able to go on back-to-backs, to be able to fit in with the up-tempo style we're doing. He wants to be 100 percent. We want him 100 percent."

--A year after he was forced to miss the preseason and most of the regular-season's first month because of a foot injury, Shane Battier returned to Houston healthy and was relieved to have been able to put in a summer working out without restriction. He was then hurt on the first day of training camp.

Battier went out with a slight hamstring pull suffered late in the first day's second practice. He was expected to be out at least a week.

"It sucks," Battier said. "I was pretty disappointed. I got home and told my wife I'll see her tomorrow and locked myself in my room. I want to be out here with these guys and playing. I don't think it's too severe of a pull. In a week we'll re-evaluate it. It's not something I want lingering. It's not worth rushing back to where I'll have to deal with it the rest of the season."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I felt for years, if you play up-tempo and play really good defense, then you are really tough to beat. If you look at Daryl (Morey's) statistics, if you get a couple extra baskets a game or if you get those open 3-pointers in an up-tempo game and you make those hoops, you are very difficult to beat if you play good defense." -- Rockets owner Leslie Alexander
