Houston Rockets Notes, Quotes 2009-03-28
--The Rockets had lost their second game this month in Salt Lake City, adding the losses to the first-round defeats against the Jazz the past two seasons. Ron Artest, however, saw only bright sides.

"We did what we needed to do," Artest, who made 5-of-22 shots, said. "We feel good. We feel good going into the playoffs. That would be a great matchup in the first round, Utah and the Rockets.

"We out-rebounded them. I kept telling Yao (Ming), 'As long as you keep attacking the glass, you're going to wear them out.' They can't deal with him down there. We did what we had to do today. We killed them on the offensive glass. I'll take a game like this any day."

--James White had played in only one game, made only two shots. In 20 days with the Rockets, he was around for just two full practices. He was around long enough for the Rockets to sign him for the rest of the season, and to a non-guaranteed year next season.

"Both sides are interested in long-term development," Rockets director of player personnel Gersson Rosas said. "Signing him will let us continue to work with him. It takes some of the heat off a young player. We've been pleased with his approach, his professionalism and his work with our coaching. We like the way he has been learning the offense, the defense, our culture. He came in and worked hard."

To White, the contract offers a chance, and an end to uncertainty heading into the off-season.

"I still have to work, continue to do the things I've been doing," White said. "Hopefully, they'll allow me to get more (playing) time later on. I'm just going to continue to do the same thing I've been doing.

"It's good to know exactly what I have to do. I can just ask the coaches, 'What do I need to do to get on the court and stay on the team?' Then, I just follow directions. Right now, it's just to keep working hard, listen to everybody. That's all I can do this year."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "In the second half, I thought we forced the issue. I thought we were very impatient in the second half. The first half, I thought we got pretty good looks. That's when you've got to settle down. You can't add fuel to the fire and let them keep (pushing it at us. We did that." -- Rick Adelman.
